The
multikill was an experiment in DJ performance eqs. It is a line
level five band eq with rotary pots instead of sliders. It is
designed to be inserted in the master output of a dj mixer to
provide more comprehensive equing and effects on the main stereo
mix. Each rotary pot has a switch above it (the pic was taken
upside down to show the rca connectors). When the switch is up
the rotary pot can be used to cut or boost the frequency. When
it is down the pot is bypassed completely and has no effect. This
way each switch can function as a kill for each frequency (or
an instant boost). you set the eq level with the pot and turn
it on/off with the switch. With this unit you can "transform"
individual frequencies. You can slowly boost a frequency and transform
it at the same time. This way you can boost or cut in "steps".
The
unit itself is more of a mod than a ground up design. The EQ is
a five band Cana-kit. The switch on the side is a general bypass
to remove the whole eq from the mix inserts. All the switches
really do is act like pots that are in the neutral position. the
mod is based on the working principles of the bass
kill switches also on this site. It is important to note however,
that here the signal does not goes through the switch. The switch
and the pot are controls for an active circuit, in this case the
eq. The signal travels through this circuit. Also when the rotary
pot on a particular frequency is in the center position (no cut
or boost) it acts as if it wasn't there. This is what the switches
do. They bypass the pots and reconnects the wires as if there
were not pots there. This sets each band in the circuit to a neutral
position.
